Scrap Cars Hingham
Located right at the rural heart of Norfolk in the stunning Forehoe district, the civil parish of Hingham is home to around 2,400 permanent residents. The village green and market place are surrounded by many truly spectacular buildings – some of the most incredible in Norfolk. History tells of much of the village being destroyed by fire in the 18th century, which resulted in wealthy families from the local area building their new homes in Hingham – thus explaining its grandeur. With Norwich lying just 17 miles from the village, Hingham is a popular residential destination for many city workers with a preference for traditional rural living.
One of the questions we’re asked most frequently at Take My Scrap Car is that what exactly happens to a vehicle, once we have collected it and taken it away? What does the contemporary car recycling process look like, when handled appropriately and responsibly?
Well, the first thing we do upon acquiring a scrap vehicle is remove all the bits and pieces that could be reused without any processing required. This applies to various key car components, electrical cables, devices, accessories and so on – all of which need no specific processing in order to continue being useful.
After this, it’s a case of focusing on the various bits and pieces that cannot be reused or recycle. These are carefully removed and disposed of in a responsible manner. Nevertheless, as more than 90% of what goes into the average car can be recycled or reused, this applies to a distinct minority of the components therein.
Last but not least, the metallic components of the car that need to be processed in order to be reused are either shredded or crushed, before being transported to the final processing facility. Here, they are melted down and used to create new materials to work with, which along with being just as robust and versatile as first-run metals are also exponentially more efficient.
The metallic components recycled from scrap cars can and often are put to use in the manufacturing of a whole world of consumer goods. As such, it’s entirely possible that the car you kiss goodbye to could once again make an appearance in your life further down the line, as something like a washing machine or even another car!
