Here at Take My Scrap Car, we’re always on the lookout for the most interesting and inspiring stories when it comes to car recycling and scrapping on a global basis. That being said, every now and again we come across the kind of story which along with ticking both of these boxes also makes us insanely jealous. After all, not every scrap car is quite the same as the kinds of scrap cars that usually get brought our way!
In this instance, what you are looking at here is nothing less than a 1963 Jaguar E-Type, which believe it or not was found in Surrey in pretty appalling condition under the hedge. That’s right, some incredibly lucky soul found this stunningly beautiful vehicle in the middle of nowhere in the village of Bisley – much to their understandable delight.
There are so many things that make this 1963 Jaguar E-Type an absolute treasure to say the least, one of which being the fact that it only has around 45,000 miles on the clock. Not only this, but there’s a pretty good indication as to how long it has been left completely out of service as it still has its most recent tax disk in place, which was valid until November 1969.
It has since been put up for auction in London and suffice to say, it is expected to fetch a serious amount of money.
“It is ideal for restoration and is extremely rare,” commented appraiser James Good at international auctioneers COYS.
“It has a great history, including racing, which collectors love.”
Just to take it over the edge in terms of value and desirability, records show that it was owned by none other than Ivor Arbiter – he bought it in May 1963. He’s a widely recognised figure who was pivotal in the 60s music scene in London and was also the guy responsible for creating the “drop-T” logo for none other than the Beatles. Which in turn means that to a very slight extent, you could consider this particular Jag to be a hugely significant piece of Beatles memorabilia.
“The Beatles logo is now recognised as one of the most significant and widely reproduced logos in history, and the fact that it was designed by the first owner of this E-Type is not insignificant,” added Good.
Nobody has been quite willing as of yet to give an estimate and value to the 1963 Jaguar E-Type, as it is expected to first undergo extensive restoration work and a good mechanical overhaul. Still, chances are if you were thinking you would be able to pick it up for less than six figures, you’d probably be disappointed!
