It’s a very exciting time of year right now for anyone with a genuine passion for recycling…or at least, those that are totally into the whole idea of car scrapping, anyway. Admittedly, that limits the field quite a lot but you can forgive us for getting all worked up about the next International Automobile Recycling Congress as these are the kinds of events where new-generation recycling methods, technology, standards and all kinds of advances are shared, discussed and aided in their development.
Or in other words, they’re just the ticket for helping businesses like us do our jobs even better! 
Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the IARC will take place in Berlin on March 25-27 and while we won’t be there in person, we’ll be keeping a close eye on all the action and every key development. Some of the biggest names and authorities from the global car recycling industry will be there to chew over everything from future recycling policies to getting the most out of every shred of scrap metal.
This year, the official program lists areas of focus as:
- How do car manufacturers and the recycling industry close the recycling loop?
- The role of the automotive industry in the context of ELV recycling
- New car design
- Best available recycling technologies
- Reports on Asian, US and European car manufacturers
- Next generation recycling processes and equipment
- European ELV Directive towards 2015
- E-mobility: Its influence on car recycling and dismantling
- Recycling challenges of new automotive materials: Nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion batteries, carbon fibres, glass, lamps, catalysts
