Car scrapping and recycling are ideas that have been around for a long time now, but for some reason or another only as of recently started emerging as big deals in the United Kingdom. As the country’s population slowly but surely realises the importance of recycling and selling old vehicles becomes near impossible, it is now the norm to send vehicles away for recycling when they hit the end of their useful life. 
In terms of the scrapping and recycling process, there are some quite strict EU guidelines that must be followed and a lot of DVLA paperwork to sort out. Nevertheless, when looking at the DVLA’s official statistics compared to that of the industry, there seems to be an annual discrepancy of around 500,000 vehicles. Which naturally begs the question – where on Earth are they?
Now, the official word on the topic has always been one of administration errors and general paperwork issues, but at the same time, it is a bit hard to believe that 10,000 vehicles are going missing each week due to human error. Instead, it is far more believable that these vehicles are simply not being recycled and declared as such by the people charged with the job. That means that the car is not put back to good use and hence has no benefit on the United Kingdom and its environment, but it also means that many individuals are left open to heavy fines.
The message from the industry is one that we always echo – when the time finally comes to scrap and recycle a vehicle, there is indeed a right and a wrong way of doing it. To go about it as if you are just throwing the vehicle in the bin is completely inappropriate and will not benefit anyone – it could also lead to serious penalties. There are very strict rules when it comes to how a vehicle needs to be recycled and what will be done with all bits and pieces – doing things in any other way is simply forbidden.
