As we always say here at Take My Scrap Car, there’s no such thing as a valueless vehicle. Even when it comes to the kinds of cars that will never see an inch of tarmac again, there’s so much value in each and every scrap car across the board.

Believe it or not, somewhere in the region of 1 million cars are permanently taken off UK roads every year. But what’s even more incredible is how around 100,000 or these cars simply disappear without a trace. At least in terms of formal DVLA paperwork, the cars are neither sold on nor scrapped – they just vanish into thin air.

Of course, this isn’t actually the case at all. They’re dumped, left to rot for all eternity, driven illegally and so on. All of which is a shame, given the value they hold when passed-on sensibly.

Explore the Options

There are always countless options to explore when it comes to car scrapping and recycling. For example, scrap cars are currently being sought quite desperately by West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. Scrap cars play a critically important role helping equip firefighters with the skills and talents they need to deal with RTA and vehicle fires in general.

Regular practice is needed to ensure that every firefighter is equally adept to deal with anything they may face. Hence, a continuous supply of scrap cars is needed to practice on.

Unfortunately, the fact that scrap cars can now be exchanged for relatively generous sums of cash is leading to something of a drought for this particular fire service

“We rely heavily on generous donations from the public, offering their cars to crews for training purposes,” a representative told the local press.

“The prices of scrap metal are known to fluctuate, and with the recent increase in prices, we have subsequently seen a significant decrease in the amount of car donations received,”

“Mark Maynard, our local scrap merchant from Autocovery has been donating scrap cars to our crews to use for 23 years. However, the change in prices has seen stocks run extremely low and as a consequence, fewer cars have been available to us,”

“Unfortunately, attending road traffic collisions is a huge part of a firefighter’s role, and, therefore, I cannot express the importance of having practical training to maintain those life-saving skills.”

An interesting campaign that further illustrates the importance of ensuring at least something responsible is done with every car taken off UK roads for good. If not interested in swapping your scrap car for a cash payment, why not consider a charitable donation of some kind.
