You’d be forgiven for thinking that in this day and age, scrapping a car would be relatively simple. Or if not simple, at least consistent. Which begs the important question – how can you be sure you’ve made the right decision? Or better yet, when does the time come to say ‘no thanks’ and head elsewhere?

- If You Have to Arrange Anything
First of all, there’s really no reason why you should be expected to make any of the necessary arrangements. In most instances, it’s not as if cars that are ready for the scrap yard are still suitable or even legal for use on public roads. As such, they need to be transported to their destination one way or another – something the scrapping service should sort out on your behalf.
- If You Have to Pay for Anything
That said, it’s one thing for them to sort out the necessary transportation, but it’s something else entirely for them to also take care of the costs. The simple fact of the matter is that if you are expected to pay for anything whatsoever at any point in the process, it’s time to head for the hills!
- If You’re Not Offered Payment
In fact, not only should you not be expected to pay for anything, but you should also be offered a fair price for your scrap vehicle, in accordance with scrap values at the time. Under no circumstances should you accept a deal from a car scrapping service that doesn’t involve you receiving at least something in return.
- If You’re Offered Cash in Hand
If you are offered something in return, you might want to be wary of anyone willing to give you cash in hand. The reason being that this is a 100% illegal practice and basically confirms that you are dealing with a dodgy dealer. Even if you don’t think you are doing anything wrong, you could still end up in trouble!
- If There’s No Paperwork
Last but not least, car scrapping and recycling these days must always be accompanied by the relevant paperwork. Just as would be the case when you buy or sell anything else legally, invoices, receipts and so on should be provided. If there’s no paperwork to speak of, this is definitely the kind of deal you do not want to be dealing with.
