At Take My Scrap Car, we know that most people looking to scrap an end-of-life vehicle have one thing in mind:

The payment.

Understandably, you want to get as much as possible from your scrap car. You’re doing the right thing by having it responsibly recycled, so it’s only fair you get something in return.

But what are the main factors that influence quotations for scrap vehicles?  When we provide a quotation for a scrap car prior to collection, what factors can push the price of the car in one direction or the other?

For the most part, there are four main factors taken into consideration when calculating quotations for scrap vehicles:

1. Scrap Values on the Day

Unsurprisingly, the single biggest factor of all is scrap values on the day. It’s the scrap materials within the car that hold its ‘afterlife’ value, so the current prices being paid for these materials will determine its value. We base our calculations on scrap values on the day the quotation is provided, ensuring we always pay a fair price for the cars we collect.

2. The Type of Vehicle Being Scrapped

This is important for the simple reason that different types of cars contain different quantities of recyclable materials. The size, weight, make, model and general specification of the vehicle will therefore be taken into account. As you’d expect, a huge commercial vehicle with tonnes of recyclable materials is always going to fetch a higher scrap value than a tiny motorbike. When you provide us with information about the vehicle you wish to scrap, we’ll consider all key details to ensure you’re provided with an accurate quotation.

3. Distance Travelled for Collection

You may also find that the price quoted for your scrap vehicle is influenced by your location. As you’d expect, collections from nearby addresses are quicker, easier and cheaper to conduct than those hundreds of miles away. If your car needs to be collected from a far-off address and transported a long distance for recycling, this will be a factor in the price quoted. All of which will, of course, be fully explained at the time of your enquiry.

4. Other Collection/Disposal Issues

Last up, any other complications regarding the collection or disposal of your vehicle will be factored in. Examples of which include accessibility issues, vehicles that are difficult to recover due to their state of repair, any potential hazards that call for enhanced health and safety measures and so on. In order to provide you with a fair and accurate quotation, we therefore ask that you provide as much detail as you can about your scrap vehicle, when organising collection.

With no obligation to go ahead, we would be delighted to provide you with a quotation so you know what kind of money your scrap vehicle is worth.  Complete the online form on our website, or contact a member of the team at Take My Scrap Car anytime to learn more.
