You’d think that when it comes to scrapping a car by 2015 standards, you really can’t go wrong. The reason being that there are so many rules, regulations and laws in place these days that the idea of anyone knowingly doing you wrong for their own gain seems pretty archaic to say the least. Unfortunately however, it does happen, which is why you need to have your wits about you when it comes to choosing who you do business with.

Not to single out any specific names, but there are certain scrap car dealers and ‘buyers’ out there that still operate in a manner that’s of no benefit at all for their customers. The good news however is that the majority are pretty easy to spot by taking into account a few rather obvious warning signs – take heed of the following and you’ll be heading in the right direction:      car-scrapping-in-2015–how-to-avoid-getting-stung

1 – Promises to ‘Buy Any Car’

First of all, there are plenty of dealers in operation today that claim they will buy literally any car across the board. Unfortunately, there’s a pretty big asterisk that should be placed by this claim, leading onto the truth behind what’s largely a lie. Yes, they’ll buy your car, but only on the condition that you can get it to the dealership under your own steam AND that it is able to pass a quality control inspection. Quality control? Driving it TO the dealership? Exactly how can you do either with a scrap car that hasn’t seen action in years?

2 – Paid Towage

In other instances, you’ll find that a car scrapping service will tell you it’ll happily take your car off your hands and not charge you a penny for the privilege. However, if you take up their generous offer of having them come out to you and take it away from your home for example, you stand to be lumped with a rather large and unpleasant bill for the towage. After all, they said they’d accept your car free of charge, but not take it away for free. It’s this kind of fine-print that leads so many down entirely the wrong path.

3 – Admin Oversights

If you find a car scrapping service that doesn’t shout about the importance of the admin side of things, beware. Long story short – if you don’t get the paperwork sorted properly and in good time when you scrap your car, it’s only a matter of time until the DVLA lumps you with a huge fine. Needless to say, the scrap dealer that was supposed to be helping you out won’t give a damn about this either, so it’s in your best interests to make sure you only ever do business with a dealer that promises to help with all the admin stuff.

4 – Licensing

Last but not least, you might not necessarily get in any trouble for letting your car go to an illegal scrap dealer that isn’t registered, but do you really want to give good money to the UK’s criminal underworld?
