When the time comes to get rid of your old scrap car, you of course want to ensure you get the maximum possible value for money. After all, there’s still a certain amount of value hiding in there somewhere – why not get a decent chunk of it for yourself?

There are various different ways of going about the car scrapping process and the approach you choose will determine what you can expect in return. Here at Take My Scrap Car, we always advise our customers to take the most thoughtful and proactive approach possible, in order to avoid missing out.

So if you are planning to scrap your car in the near future and would like to ensure you get the most money possible, be sure to ask yourself the following four questions:

1 – Could It Be Sold?
First of all, it’s worth bearing in mind that certain cars will be bought for a surprisingly generous price, by those interested in their spare parts. This is particularly true in the case of many rare or classic cars, where even one single working part could turn out to be worth more than the combined scrap value of the whole thing. Of course, this doesn’t happen particularly often, but it’s nonetheless worth considering whether you could possibly sell your car. If it’s simply a mass-produced car that’s at the end of its lifespan, the answer is…probably not!

2 – Have You Removed the Valuables?
That said, chances are there are plenty of bits and pieces in the car that could be sold on for a decent price. Obvious examples include things like the stereo, any premium speakers fitted about the place, aftermarket modifications, alloy wheels and even tyres that are still in good condition. Don’t let it escape your attention just how expensive premium tyres can be these days when bought brand-new!

3 – Are You Paying for the Privilege?
One very important question to ask before and during the process is whether you are being asked to pay for any of the services provided. In some instances, a car scrapping business will happily accept your car free of charge, but may charge you a hefty price to collect it. In other instances, various admin fees and hidden charges have a nasty habit of adding up. The way we see it, unless absolutely everything is offered 100% free of charge, you would be far better off not bothering and taking your business elsewhere.

4 – Are They Paying You a Fair Price?
Last but not least, it’s one thing to claim to offer a fair price in accordance with scrap values at the time. Nevertheless, it’s something else entirely to guarantee the best possible price for your scrap car – regardless of its age, condition, location and so on. If one particular car scrapping service does not guarantee its prices paid, you might as well take your business to one that does!
