It’s a fate that befalls all of us at some point or another. The car you’ve come to count on over the years suddenly craps-out on you and screeches to a grinding halt. Your first instinct being to get it repaired and back on the road as quickly as possible, only to find it either can’t be repaired or wouldn’t justify the costs.

Hence, you find yourself with a non-running vehicle and aren’t sure what to do with it.

When this happens, there are essentially three things you can do with your scrap car. Each bringing its own unique advantages and disadvantages to the table.  It’s up to you which way you go, but you can probably figure which of the three is our own preferred approach!

Here are the options you’ll be looking at:

1 – Sell Your Non-Running Car

Depending on the make, model, age and condition of your car, you may be able to sell it on for parts. If it’s a particularly rare or expensive car, you may find there’s plenty of value hiding in its various bits and pieces. Otherwise, selling your non-running car might not be quite as easy as you’d expect.

You need to factor in the work that’s needed on the part of the buyer to collect it, transport it, strip it, store it and get rid of the bits and pieces they don’t really need. So even if there’s value to be found in your car’s components, there are no guarantees anyone will be interested.

2 – Trade In A Non-Running Car

In some instances, dealerships may accept your non-running car as something of a deposit against a new or used car you intend to purchase. Nevertheless, you’ll be looking at a token incentive at best – there’s not much profit to be made on the part of a dealership from a car that’s ready to scrap.

What’s more, many of the services out there that promise to ‘buy any car’ aren’t necessarily telling the whole truth. They’ll buy any car that works and can be sold-on, but a car that’s going nowhere but the recycling plant is a different story entirely.  So while trading in a non-running car is an option, it’s not always as easy or beneficial as you might expect.

3 – Scrap Your Non-Running Car

Last but not least, the quickest and easiest way to deal with a non-running vehicle of any kind is to send it away for responsible scrapping and recycling.  Here at Take My Scrap Car, we’re proud to offer the region’s most dynamic and rewarding car scrapping service for the responsible motorist.
