Your car may have been written off, by this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s completely devoid of value. For one thing, scrapping and recycling your car could pave the way for a generous payment.

At Take My Scrap Car, we promise to pay the best possible price for every scrap car we collect – irrespective of what kind of condition it may be in.

In addition to this, there may also be a wide variety of parts (aftermarket or otherwise) that are still in perfectly good condition. Many of which you could probably sell for a decent price online, perhaps for more than the scrap value of the rest of the car itself.

Exhaust system upgrades, expensive alloy wheels, cutting-edge stereo systems and speakers – all the kinds of things that fetch good money on the resale market.

But to what extent can you strip your car of these kinds of goodies and still scrap it as normal? Are there any limitations to what you can take out of your car before sending it off to be recycled?

Let Common Sense Be Your Guide

To a degree, the sky is more or less the limit where removing expensive bits and pieces from your car is concerned.

What’s important to remember when scrapping a car is that the scrapping process focuses on the raw materials that form the car’s basic composition. It’s not about reselling things like stereos and decorative gear-knobs – it’s all about the scrap materials.

Consequently, you’re free to remove more or less any supplementary aftermarket extras you feel you may be able to get a better price for online.  That is, just as long as they don’t make it difficult or impossible to pick up and transport your car safely to the recycling centre.

It’s not that your car has to be in good working order, as we’ll be hauling it away on truck anyway. Nevertheless, ripping out everything apart from the basics of the chassis itself probably isn’t a good idea, if looking to get a decent price for it as scrap.
