Slowly but surely, we’re heading towards a future where combustion-engine cars will soon be a thing of the past. The UK government recently outlined plans to ban the sale of all standard petrol and diesel vehicles within the next 20 years or so, meaning we’ll soon be looking at roads with nothing but EVs and super-efficient hybrids.

But what happens when the time comes to scrap a hybrid vehicle? Is the scrapping and recycling process the same as with a regular car, or are there any important differences to take into account?

A Barrage of Batteries

For the most part, the only major difference between a hybrid vehicle and a regular car (in terms of scrapping and recycling) is how the former contains any number of enormous batteries. With most hybrid vehicles, the in-built batteries have a lifespan of up to a decade and can (in some cases) be replaced when the time comes.

When hybrid vehicle batteries reach the end of their usable life, approximately 90% of them can be recycled and used as the basis for new batteries. This in turn means that almost everything that goes into a hybrid vehicle can be recycled and put to good use – just as long as it is scrapped and recycled appropriately.

A More Meticulous Process

From the perspective of a scrapping and recycling company, all of the above adds up to a significantly more meticulous and complex process. Handling batteries in general can be quite hazardous – amplified by the fact that these aren’t your ordinary batteries!

Nevertheless, scrapping and recycling hybrid vehicles is something we do here at Take My Scrap Car. We handle all aspects of the transportation, scrapping and recycling process on behalf of our customers, meaning not a finger to lift bar the initial phone call.

Hence, from the perspective of the driver, the answer is no – scrapping a hybrid vehicle is no different to scrapping a regular car.

How Much Is My Scrap Hybrid Worth?

At Take My Scrap Car, we calculate the prices we quote on the basis of scrap values on the day. This applies to hybrid vehicles as it does to all other types of vehicles, so you know you are getting a good deal.

In order to provide you with an accurate quotation, we will need to confirm a few details about the car you are looking to scrap. Simply fill out the online form and one of our representatives will get back to you, or call anytime to learn more.

After which, we’ll collect your vehicle at a convenient time and date from anywhere in Norfolk. Best of all, as the services we provide are 100% free of charge, the price we quote is the price you will receive – every penny of it.
