Suffice to say, an enormous fire that swept through the area 15 years ago didn’t exactly work wonders for their already unfortunate condition, turning them largely into hollowed out shells.
Still, those who are in control of the base apparently seem to think that there are least be some owners out there who would prefer to take their vehicles back. Which is precisely why they have announced that said owners now officially have until the beginning of next year to reclaim their vehicles, before efforts will begin to dispose of them.
‘We have to make the effort to give them back before we start disposing of them, it’s the proper thing to do,” said Ian Brayshaw, a British Bases official in charge of the project.
Unsurprisingly, there is barely a vehicle anywhere in the base that has a value of more than its scrap metal weight. Nevertheless, Brayshaw insisted that there are still some vehicles in there with pretty decent values – one or two of which could fetch £2,000, if the right collector was found.
And then of course there’s sentiment – it’s impossible to know exactly how much sentimental value the vehicles have to their previous owners.
