As promised, here’s the second half of our two-part post covering some of the most commonly asked questions from Take My Scrap Car’s customers:

6. How long will it take to remove my car?

It all depends on the time, date and how busy the drivers are at the time. We keep our drivers on the roads 24 hours a day throughout the year, meaning that there’s usually someone nearby when you get in touch. In fact, it’s often possible to organise collection on the very same day. When we arrive, it usually takes no longer than about 10 minutes for us to pick your car up and successfully remove it. Give the Take My Scrap Car team a call today for more information.

7. Do I need to contact the DVLA when you remove my vehicle?

The only reason you will need to contact the DVLA is if you do not have the required documentation as proof of ownership of the vehicle. If you have the required documentation, you do not have to get in touch with the DVLA at all.  Instead, we take care of this on your behalf as part of the service we provide.  Once again, feel free to get in touch with our team if you have any questions regarding paperwork or documentation of any kind.

8. Can I claim back my unused tax and car insurance?

On the taxation side of things, the answer is yes. If you still have any unused tax on the car you scrap, you should be eligible for a refund. Which is something that happens automatically, when the DVLA receives notification that your car has been scrapped. In terms of insurance, you will need to get in touch with your insurer directly to discuss their own unique policies.

9. Can I get cash for my car?

You can, but you shouldn’t. It’s technically illegal to accept cash from any car scrapping or recycling service for any vehicle. Which is once again due to the Scrap Metal Dealers Act of 2013, which was designed to make it difficult for rogue traders to do business. Instead, payments can only legally be made in a manner that leaves a documented paper trail – bank transfers or cheques, for example. If you are offered cash in hand, you might want to think about heading elsewhere.

10. How much can I get for my car?

Last but not least, given that scrap values are fluctuating all the time, we calculate all vehicle values in real-time. What’s more, the price we quote is the price you will receive, guaranteed. Simply get in touch with us directly, or use our online query service to determine how much your scrap car could be worth.
