You’d be forgiven for thinking that if anyone in the UK happened to own a classic Chevrolet Impala from 1969, they’d probably notice if the thing went missing. Seriously, these things are pretty rare and sought after across the pond in the United States, though over in the UK are about as common as unicorn droppings. As such, if you were one of the few people that actually owned one and it vanished into thin air, how the hell would you not notice?
Well, that’s the question being asked by police in Surrey after a 1969 Chevy Impala was found abandoned in rush hour traffic and with one or two rather large dings to its front end. With none of the car’s occupants in sight, the police reached the conclusion that it must have been stolen in the hours or days prior and taken for a joyride, only to then be abandoned after it had been banged up a bit. So, as usual the car was taken into official police custody and a series of ads posted in order to find its owner and inform them of the unfortunate news. Unfortunately, nobody came forward and the exact origins/owner of the Impala remain a mystery. 
Which would be all well and good if it wasn’t for the fact that if it doesn’t get claimed soon, it’s heading for the scrapyard. That’s right – a stunning 1969 Impala in classic white that could easily be returned to pristine working conditions, heading for the shredder and ultimately the recycling plant. Suffice to say, the idea of this kind of car being processed into new washing machine parts or structural steel joints really doesn’t bear thinking about…and that’s on the part of the rest of us that don’t even own or have any kind of connection with the thing!
Just when you think you’ve heard of everything weird, wild and wacky, something like this happens and makes you once again question what some folk are thinking!
