Scrap Your Car for Cash? Here's How You Get Paid

If you searched for cash for your scrap car, you want three things: a fair price, no hassle and your money today. That is exactly what we do across Norfolk and Suffolk. The one thing no licensed scrap car buyer can do is hand you notes, and that rule is there to protect you.

Paid on the day, the legal way

  1. Get a quote. Call 01603 916893 or enter your registration in the form. We quote from the registration and the vehicle's weight, and the figure we give you is the figure you are paid.
  2. Free collection. We come to you anywhere in Norfolk and Suffolk, often the same day you call, running or not. There is nothing to pay at any stage.
  3. Paid on the day. We pay the agreed amount the day we collect, by bank transfer, PayPal or cheque, and we deal with the DVLA paperwork for you.

Why no scrap car buyer can legally pay cash

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 makes it a criminal offence for a scrap metal dealer in England and Wales to pay for scrap metal in cash, and a scrap car counts as scrap metal. Since 2013 every dealer has needed a licence from their local council, must pay by bank transfer or cheque, must check the name and address of the person selling, and must keep a record of every vehicle they take in.

The rules were brought in to stop stolen cars and metal being sold for untraceable cash. For you, a payment into your account is also proof that the car was sold and scrapped legally.

We are licensed by South Norfolk District Council and the DVLA, and we are an Authorised Treatment Facility regulated by the Environment Agency. Every car we take is paid for, recorded and scrapped the way the law requires.

Why a cash offer is a warning sign

  • A buyer offering notes for your car is breaking the law, so there is little reason to trust them with the rest of the job.
  • Without a proper record you can stay the registered keeper, still liable for tax, fines and anything the car is later used for.
  • An Authorised Treatment Facility like ours issues a Certificate of Destruction and the DVLA is told the car has gone. A cash buyer often does neither.

What you need

Your V5C logbook if you have it. If it is lost, we can still help: see scrapping a car without a V5C. For the whole process, read how to scrap a car in Norfolk, and for what decides the figure, how scrap car prices are worked out. We collect from every town and village on our areas we cover list.

Questions people ask

Can I get cash for my scrap car?

Not legally. Since 2013 the Scrap Metal Dealers Act has banned scrap metal dealers from paying cash, and that includes cars. We pay the agreed amount on the day we collect, by bank transfer, PayPal or cheque.

How quickly will I be paid?

On the day we collect your car. We can often collect the same day you call.

Why do you pay by bank transfer instead of cash?

Because the law requires it. A traceable payment also proves the car was sold and scrapped legally, which protects you as the last keeper.

Does collection cost anything?

No. Collection is free across Norfolk and Suffolk, and there is nothing to pay at any stage.

Is the price you quote the price I get?

Yes. We quote from the registration and the vehicle's weight, and the figure we give you is the figure you are paid.
