Compared to just one year ago, the number of car recycling plants and providers on the UK market is quite extraordinary. Not that this is in any way a bad thing – we’ve all come to understand the importance of car recycling and the fact that most motorists are doing exactly that is pretty great.
However, with services in such numbers will always come the prospect of a few bum entries here and there. From recycling services serving as nothing more than middle-men to those that will happily dupe anyone that comes their way, it’s important to understand there’s at least some thought necessary when it comes to the selection process.
Chances are you want your car to be recycled in a manner that’s best for all involved, so keep the following pointers in mind and make sure you make the right decision:
Direct Dealer or Middleman?
First of all, have a think about whether the service provider you’re considering is in fact a recycling agent and not just a charlatan…aka a middleman. These days, there are so many individuals claiming to be recycling agencies in their own right, when really all they do is offer you a lower price for your car, take it to the real recycling yard and then cash it in for a much higher price. Not the end of the world if you’re not bothered about being short-changed, but if you want to get a fair price for your vehicle you need to be sure to cut out all middlemen and go straight for a responsible recycling specialist.
Fair Prices or Rough Guesses?
Still on the subject of price, there’s a big difference between a firm that says it’ll pay in the region of a certain amount for the car and another that pays the best price by way of industry averages. Any worthwhile recycling firm these days will back each of the prices it quotes for any cars with the guarantee that a better price will not be found elsewhere. And if it is, they’ll match it. So if you’re feeling a little like you’re being short-changed or you’re not convinced they’re being honest with their quotes, there’s nothing to gain by going forward.
Solid Feedback or Otherwise?
Like all other businesses that operate via the web today, car recycling firms cannot escape the all-seeing eye of the reviewer and blogger. As such, it should be pretty easy to find reviews and write-ups regarding their services and how they operate – the firm should ideally be printing this information on its own website. And if the feedback is either uninspiring or missing entirely…you have your answer.
Convincing Contact Details or None?
And finally, never overlook the importance of a solid set of contact details. If, for example, the only contact information offered is an online request form or a single mobile phone number, you could be barking up the wrong tree. By contrast, if there are multiple ways of getting in touch including landlines, email addresses and ideally a fixed business address, chances are you’re onto a winner.
