In case you hadn’t figured it out by now, here at Take My Scrap Car we’re all about offering fair reward for good efforts when it comes to recycling and the like. After all, there’s really nothing less motivating than heading out and doing the right thing, only to find it’s either needlessly complicated or expensive. We always find it hugely reassuring to find others that think the same way we do and commend the efforts of anyone who sets out to motivate the UK public the right way.
That’s why we were delighted to hear that the local council of Braintree…admittedly not without our open area of coverage…has given the preliminary details of a new scheme that will see those who recycle the most across the community rewarded for their efforts in accordance with how much they recycle. Having recently won nearly a million pounds to improve the area’s recycling initiatives, the new deal would and will eventually see those who recycle above and beyond the normal call of duty being offered points, a little like those you’d get in the supermarket, which can over time stack up and be turned into something tasty.
We have always said we prefer to offer incentives rather than to beat people about the head,” said James Abbott, district councillor and the Green Party leader on Essex County Council who clearly shares our own views to a tee.
“If you look at the cost benefits of this, for every tonne you get out of landfill and into recycling, you make a saving.
“In many local authorities, Braintree included, recycling has flatlined or come down very slowly. That’s a national issue.
“There doesn’t seem to be a clear reason why and we need to get the trajectory back up again.”
No official details have yet been released as to what kinds of incentives will be on offer or what the local residents will be able to exchange their points for, but not matter what it turns out to be it’s going to be a heck of a lot better than nothing.
These are exactly the kinds of initiatives that on one hand fill us with inspiration, but on the other make us wonder what on Earth a fair few other localities are doing with their distinct lack of similar pushes. All over the UK, there are still plenty of places where recycling is made such a pain in the rear end that you can wholly understand why so many don’t bother doing their all-important bit. And when it comes to things like paying to have a car taken away and recycled, these are the kinds of things we’d like to see the back of sooner rather than later.
It’s not like we can offer you a small fortune for your own car or promise that the prospect of recycling a car will ever be fun, but what we most certainly can do is make things as easy and rewarding as realistically possible. So, if you’ve been thinking about getting rid of an old car and would like to get the best deal in the UK right now, give the Take My Scrap Car a call today.
