People come to Take My Scrap Car every day with all manner of questions, but one of the most frequent of all is that of how to dispose of a vehicle’s fluids properly. When you bring your car to us, we’ll take care of all of this kind of stuff on your behalf. We only ever follow the strictest of guidelines when it comes to our scrapping and recycling procedures, so you can rest-assured that your car will be put back into the system one way or the other.
However, there are times when various DIY repairs and tweaks call for fluid changes and general emptying processes, which never fail to prompt the same conundrum for most. You’ve got the stuff out alright, but now where do you take it?
Now, on the surface it may not sound like a particularly pressing subject, but is in fact one of great importance. The reason being that every time we receive say a dozen calls from responsible motorists asking about safe disposal, we can’t help but assume that much larger numbers have no real interest in doing the right thing with their car’s fluids. However, while the vast majority may be fully aware of the fact that proper disposal is important, many argue that disposing of such fluids in the correct manner is made far too difficult or inconvenient to be viable.
While there are many dump sites and recycling centres that will take these kinds of waste fluids off your hands, it’s not as if everyone lives within sensible reach of such services. There are of course always local garages and the likes to turn to, but chances are you’ll be looking at having to make a payment which smacks of unfairness when you’re trying to do the right thing. As such, it’s technically of little surprise that so many thousands of gallons of hazardous fluids are simply thrown down the drain every year, or bottled up and thrown in the bin with the rest of the rubbish.
In any case, it would be interesting to see how big of a difference it would make if the government or local authorities stepped in to introduce a wholly more accessible means of disposing of car fluids. Would you be more inclined to do the right thing if it was made easier for you, or do you reckon those with no inclination as it stands wouldn’t be in any way swayed by easier access to disposal facilities?
Food for thought, either way.
Of course, if you bring your scrap car to us, then you can rest assured that every last inch of it will be utilised in the best possible way, or disposed of in accordance with strict EU rules and guidelines. What’s more, we can always be called up for a few tips on how to go about the recycling and disposal of your car and any of its parts, so feel free to give the team a call if in any doubt.
