Here at Take My Scrap Car, we’re always happy to admit when we’ve been somewhat outdone at our own game. Not that anyone else in Norfolk has the same kind of car scrapping skills as our plucky team, but when it comes to taking what’s clearly a pile of junk and making it into something quite marvellous, there are times when we just have to tip our collective hats in the direction of someone else.
Today’s example concerns one Segun Oyeyiola, who set about a project at Nigeria’s Obagemi Awolowo University to turn a genuinely clapped out VW Beetle into something much more desirable…and eco-friendly. One year and $6,000 later, the engineering senior had used the scrap car and an array of other scrap parts to create a fully working vehicle powered by wind and solar-panels. And while it’s certainly not going to win any prizes for looks or track-performance, it’s a frankly brilliant testament to what can be done to further the world’s energy-saving efforts with a little creativity.
“I wanted to reduce carbon dioxide emission[s] going to our atmosphere that lead to climate change or global warming which has become a new reality, with deleterious effect: seasonal cycles are disrupted, as are ecosystems; and agriculture, water needs and supply, and food production are all adversely affected,” he said after putting the thing together.
“Therefore, I came up of building a car that will use both winds and solar energy for its movement,”
“This was my personal project because of the problem I’m planning to solve.”
What’s really remarkable is the way in which he thought far enough outside the box to back the solar power system with a wind power system to allow for driving even during hours of darkness. Located under the hood, the wind turbine collects and stores power all the time the car is in motion 100% free of charge and at no cost to Mother Nature.
Seriously – what a brilliant use for scrap car parts!
Recycled and Reused
Of course, we can’t realistically promise to transform your old car into anything quite as remarkable as Segun Oyeyiola’s eco-friendly wonder, but we can at least guarantee that it will be recycled and put back into use as something else. Exactly what, we can’t say – perhaps it’ll end up contributing to that toaster you’ll be buying in a few years, or even one of your future cars. But whatever it is, we’re all about making sure nothing at all is wasted and that where there’s something that can be reused, it is!
So, if you don’t have the time, the resources or the inclination to take your old car the same way Segun Oyeyiola took his, we’d advise you to give us a call instead. If nothing else, we’ll take it off your hands for free, we’ll help you with the paperwork and we’ll make sure you get at least a little something for your efforts – we can’t really offer more than that!
