At Take My Scrap Car, we’re often asked how best to go about the process of scrapping a car without insurance. After all, it’s not uncommon for an end-of-life vehicle to be untaxed, untested and uninsured. Scrapping a car without insurance means handing it over to a licensed disposal specialist, but how do you actually get it there in the first place?
The answer – you don’t make the same mistake as Mark David Nicklin of Haroldston Hill.
When Doing the Right Thing Goes Horribly Wrong
Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about it. In the case of this chap, he really couldn’t have got things more wrong.
On one hand, you could say that yes – his intention was indeed scrapping a car in the advised and responsible manner. Sadly, he decided the best way to go about it was to personally drive the vehicle the short distance to the local scrap yard. Apparently paying no mind to the fact that he was driving without insurance, tax or an MOT.
Not only this, but he’d also been smoking cannabis the night before, which was still in his system when pulled over by the police. A random vehicle check turned into his worst nightmare, ultimately resulting in a relatively hefty fine and a driving ban.
Far from a minor inconvenience, Mr Nicklin’s solicitor stated that the loss of his driving licence will almost certainly result in the loss of his job. In which case, he may also be unable to continue paying for his home. All in all, a seriously heavy price to pay for one rather epic example of poor decision-making.
Scrapping a Car Without Insurance the Easy Way
As we don’t (currently) operate in Wales, there’s not a great deal we could have done to help this guy out. For good-intentioned drivers in Norfolk, however, it’s an entirely different story.

In fact, we’re happy to take cars that wouldn’t last 30 seconds on public roads, due to their condition.
Rather than expecting our customers to bring their scrap cars to us, we handle everything on their behalf. Our fleet of drivers is out and about on a 24/7 basis, collecting scrap vehicles of all shapes and sizes from across the region.
