Here at Take My Scrap Car, our approach to contemporary car recycling is technically quite simple. We spend our time proactively searching for cars at the end of their usable lives, we collect them personally and we pay for them. After this, it’s off to the recycling plant to be processed and melted down, creating new materials to be used for pretty much anything.
The thing is though, if the future predictions of one extremely innovated car manufacturer are anything to go by, our days might be well and truly numbered! Not that things are likely to change in any big way anytime soon, but at some point a few decades or generations from now, the way in which cars are both created and recycled could be revolutionised like never before.
3D Printed Cars
If you’ve never heard of the humbly-entitled brand Local Motors before, meet the first company in the world to successfully manufacture a 3D printed car. And we’re not just talking a few novel prototypes or experiments either – these fully-functional and totally gorgeous cars will shortly be sold to the public for the first time.
Going forward, 3D printing is expected to change the way almost everything is manufactured – cars are already being printed using carbon fibre and thermoplastic. But what’s uniquely interesting about these guys is the way in which they want the car you buy from them to be quite literally the only car you will ever buy in a lifetime.
Should it be damaged or simply no longer suit your tastes, they’ll simply melt it down and print you a new one using the same recycled materials!
But it’s not only a case of going nuclear and having the whole thing melted and reprocessed either. The idea of the strategy is to make it possible for car buyers to invest in as many modifications, upgrades and new technologies as possible, without ever having to change their actual car. Theoretically, you could drive in with a clapped-out coupe in the morning and pick up a gleaming sports car by the end of the day.
What’s even more incredible is the way in which the company expects the cars sold to start from around the $50,000 mark, though experts see things coming down to as little as $20,000 soon enough. And given the fact that 3D printed accessories and upgrades will be way cheaper than standard add-ons…well, even the sky isn’t the limit!
Time Will Tell
Of course, only time will tell if all such projections ever materialise, but for the time being the Take My Scrap Car Team can at least offer the county’s best car scrapping and recycling service. We’re not the guys to come to if you ever want to see your car again of course, but if you’re looking for the best possible place for your scrap car and the promise of responsible recycling without exception, you won’t find a better deal anywhere else.
