Another major manufacturer has added its name to the growing list of car makers incentivising drivers to scrap their old cars. This time, it’s Vauxhall – and the offer is worth £4,000 or more off the price of a new car.

Initially available throughout the month of June only, the offer extends to any car from any manufacturer. Officially known as the ‘Trade Up’ scrappage deal, motorists trading in cars that are at least seven years old will be handed a minimum of £4,000 off the price of their new purchase. That is, just as long as the purchase in question is a new Astra, Mokka X, Crossland X, Grandland X and Viva Rocks models.

Even if your car isn’t currently seven years old, there’s still a decent trade-in scheme worth up to £3,000 available. Once again, the vast majority of vehicles are considered eligible for the trade-in scheme, though the incentive is restricted to buyers interested in a Conditional Sale or PCP finance agreement.

As it stands, the cheapest car available as part of the Trade Up scrappage scheme is the compact SUV crossover, the Viva Rocks. Currently on the market for £12,240 for the base model, a discount of £4,000 would bring the sticker price down to an impressive £8,240.

Speaking on behalf of Vauxhall, retail sales director Stephanie Howson focused more on the enjoyment of driving a new car and the benefits of taking old and rundown cars off the streets:

 “There really isn’t anything quite like driving off the forecourt in a brand new car for the first time, and thanks to our exciting Trade Up event, motorists will be able to share in that feeling,” she said.

“People often assume they can’t afford to buy a brand new car, but that’s simply not the case,”

“We would like to encourage anyone considering upgrading their vehicle to visit their nearest Vauxhall retailer and take advantage of this fantastic offer.”
